thank you indeed for this speedy answer!
Yes, I had already been regularly updating INTEL hardware via the Driver & Support Assistant.
This of course, is what you would expect from a senior PC user and trained PC-supporter.
The crux, as mentioned before, is: THERE is NO device, logical or physical, named:
'Intel(R) Management Engine Interface' hence, the Intel assistant responds with OK, no driver update required.
However, two items in 'Device mgr./Other devices' appear with a faulty driver note:

with the message:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

I do hope this info renders a more clear picture and gives an idea what's going on here.
Btw. since Win10-1803 update, 4 more PCs and Laptops with Win10home and Win10Pro have crashed with non-recoverable system. This update is once again an assault to Win10 users who trust MS to test updates before distribution.
At least I'd expect that an update tests the driver availability for each system. Instead MS-Win10-update crashes non-compatible systems. What hundreds of millions of users of Win10 would expect is that MS update tests the user system and renders a notification about issues and delays updates accordingly until drivers are available or issues can be resolved.
None of this has happend with latest update!
After 40 years, still the same quick and dirty approach to Software distribution. Very disappointing!
Purpose
This download record installs the Intel® Management Engine (Intel® ME) components for Windows 7*, Windows 8.1*, and Windows® 10 for Intel® NUC Kit NUC5i5MYHE and Intel® NUC Board NUC5i5MYBE.
The Intel ME installer detects the Intel NUC’s capabilities and installs the relevant drivers.

Notes
If the Intel ME driver hasn't been successfully installed, you can see an error on a PCI Simple Communications Controller in Device Manager.
Kernel-Mode Driver Framework 1.11 (KB 2685811) may need to be installed first if you are using Windows 7.
